RECYCLING UPDATE

EFFECTIVE NOVEMBER 1, 2018 – OCTOBER 31, 2019

Recycling hours are every Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon. Summer hours beginning the last Wednesday in April and ending the last Wednesday in October are from 3:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.

In order to access the recycling center for trash or recyclables, a valid green punch card must be purchased at the town office and presented at the recycling center each time.  The initial fee will be $60.00 for punch card(s) which allow for 50 punches.  Seniors age 65 and over can purchase an access card for $20.00 which will also provide 50 punches.  All trash bags up to and including 14 gallons will be accepted for one punch each.  All trash bags larger than 14 gallons will be accepted for two punches each.  Recyclables will be accepted for free. Additional cards may be purchased for the prices noted above at the town office.  Cards will not be accepted for credit at the end of the year. Only garbage/waste from a residence of Stamford will be accepted.

MERCURY-added products CANNOT be placed in the trash. Some items containing mercury are thermometers, fluorescent light bulbs, thermostats and flat panel display screens.  For more information, visit http://www.mercvt.org or call 1-800-974-9559.  Watch for local Hazardous Waste Collection Day in spring of 2018.

Sharps containers for the disposal of needles, razor blades or any other sharp objects are available at no charge at the transfer station. Please return to Tapestry at 6 West Main Street, North Adams, MA when full.  Do not dispose of any sharp objects in your trash.

RECYCLING CENTER FEE SCHEDULE:

1. Demolition material, $30.00/cu.yd.*++

Fifty five (55) gallon bag of demolition, $11.00 each ++

Thirty two (32) gallon bag of demolition, $6.00 each ++

Minimum charge for any use of demolition dumpster, $6.00

2. Demolition material for contractor working for a Stamford resident (Property owner must purchase the ticket.), $30.00/cu.yd.*++

3. Large appliances (such as stoves, washers, dryers, electric or gas water heaters)Nothing with coolants, $10.00 each *++

4. Any item containing a form of coolant (refrigerator, freezer, air conditioner, dehumidifier), $35.00 each *++

5. Stereos, microwave ovens and vacuum cleaners, $5.00 each *++

6. Mattresses, room size rugs and stuffed furniture, $17.00 each *++

7. Small chairs, coffee or end tables, strollers and auto batteries, $2.00 each *++

8. Tires (CAR & PICKUP TRUCKS WITHOUT RIMS), $5.00 each *++

Tires (CAR & PICKUP TRUCKS WITH RIMS), $7.00 each *++

Tires (FOR LARGE TRUCKS WITHOUT RIMS), $12.00 each *++

9. Small handheld propane tanks. MUST BE EMPTY.  (large propane tanks and vehicle gas tanks will not be accepted), $5.00 each *++

10. Twenty (20) pound gas grill tanks. MUST BE EMPTY, $5.00 each *++

11. Dry and empty paint and stain cans (with lids), $1.00 each *++

12. Televisions up to 36 inches, $40.00 each *++

36 inch and larger televisions and console televisions, $55.00 each *++

WASTE OIL WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED.  Waste oil may be returned to the store where it was purchased; they are required to take it back if returned in approved containers.

INSTRUCTIONS:

RECYCLED MATERIAL FOR SINGLE STREAM CONTAINER:

FOOD GRADE TIN CANS – rinsed (labels ok, no other metal products)

GLASS – ALL COLORS – rinsed (covers and labels ok)

PLASTIC MATERIALS – rinsed.    Plastic bags are not recyclable.

NEWSPAPER, MAGAZINES, BOXBOARD, CORRUGATED CARDBOARD, BOOKS AND MIXED OFFICE PAPER – All boxes contaminated with food, soap or wax coating are trash. Books may be placed on shelf in shed for others to use.

SEPARATE AND PLACE IN PROPER CONTAINERS:

ALUMINUM CANS – rinsed and place in aluminum can container.

FOIL BAKING PANS AND ALUMINUM FOIL – rinse, flatten and place in aluminum foil container.

SCRAP METAL – metal of all types (white goods, [appliances of all sizes] buckets, shovels, auto parts, wire and mailboxes) will be accepted. Used oil filters must be drained and all gasoline and oil must be removed from mower and engines before disposing.

DEMOLITION CONTAINER:

AEROSOL CANS – MUST BE EMPTY.

CERAMICS, PORCELAIN, PLATE GLASS (WINDOW GLASS), LIGHT BULBS AND DISHWARE.  Do not mix these items with recycled glass as listed in above.

HOUSEHOLD BATTERIES

The minimum charge will be $30.00 per cu. yd. includes composition shingles, tar paper, broken up sheet

rock, building materials, concrete, bricks, masonry, furniture, mattresses, etc..

For example:        Pickup truck with 8 ft bed                  3 cubic yards        $ 90.00 *++

Pickup truck with 6 ft bed                  2.5 cubic yards     $ 75.00 *++

Compact pickup                                  2 cubic yards        $ 60.00 *++

FOOD SCRAPS BIN:

Meat, bones, fats, soup, liquids, milk, cheese, yogurt, nuts, eggs, shells, baked goods, bread, pasta, tea bags, coffee grounds, filters, vegetables, fruit, peels and cores (no stickers), napkins and paper towels, BPI certified products, etc.

TRASH COMPACTOR:

Only non-recyclable materials, including cat litter, plastics with no logo or number, wrappers, straws, plastic utensils, plastic cups, diapers, bio waste, styrofoam, packaging, dishes, pyrex, ceramics, any recyclables and cardboard contaminated with food waste, and plastic bags. Please separate carefully.

LEAVES and BRUSH will be accepted as follows:
